How does a grenade work?

Book: "I want you to pretend that I've handed you a live grenade. The pin is out and you are holding down the spoon."

Corie: "Mom, how does a grenade work?"

Mom: "You pull the thing and it blows up."

Corie: "Dad, how does a grenade work?"

Dad: "Well, it is this hard, thick metal filled with this explosive material inside. Once you have pulled the pin out; you have to hold down the spoon. When you let go of the spoon it will fling out and you have only a few seconds before it explodes."

Mom: "This is the difference between a man and a woman."

Dad: "Hey look, it's Dr. Suess!"
